| | myLot Discussions about The Sex Pistols Memorabilia | | Sex Pistols reunite yet again for a 30th aniversary gig | | http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/7000180.stmDo you think this is a good thing or just another sellout? The '96 reunion was a laugh because they were blatently doing for the money and were honest about it - calling it the Filthy Lucre tour. I remember them going on Top Of The Pops 11 years ago doing several of their old songs - Johnny Rotton (Lyden) was already in full Uncle Johnny, scary punk kiddie entertainer mode but watching it back (I taped the show) they were pretty good. By the 2002 "Silver Jubile of punk" re-reunion they were getting bad reviews from jounalists who'd been writing about punk for years, but Mojo's got a responce from somebody at the gig insisting it had gone well. | |
| | | Sex Pistols was it really a swindle? | | The Sex Pistols 'The Great Rock N Roll Swindle' film was it REALLy a swindle or was it a stroke of genius in marketing which has never ever been close to being beat. 'No One Is Innocent' has to be their best track. Ronnie Briggs singing in a group the great train robber, marketing perfection. | |

| | The Runaways- the soundtrack | | The Runaways- bio pic about the all-girl punkish band (with Joan Jett, Lita Ford, Cherie Currie) is coming out in less than 2 weeks. I've been really excited about this movie; Dakota Fanning's in it, its about a band, and the artistic style of the movie itself looks incredible, plus Kristen Stewarts in it, too (and yes, I'm a Twilight fan so that's a plus for me).
The soundtrack list was released a couple of weeks ago, and I think it sounds pretty cool:
NICK GILDER - ROXY ROLLER
SUZI QUATRO - THE WILD ONE
MC5 - IT’S A MAN’S MAN’S MAN’S WORLD
DAVID BOWIE- REBEL REBEL
DAKOTA FANNING- CHERRY BOMB
THE RUNAWAYS - HOLLYWOOD
DAKOTA FANNING - CALIFORNIA PARADISE
THE RUNAWAYS - YOU DRIVE ME WILD
DAKOTA FANNING & KRISTEN STEWART - QUEENS OF NOISE
KRISTEN STEWART & DAKOTA FANNING - DEAD END JUSTICE
THE STOOGES - I WANNA BE YOUR DOG
THE RUNAWAYS - I WANNA BE WHERE THE BOYS ARE (LIVE)
SEX PISTOLS - PRETTY VACANT
JOAN JETT- DON’T ABUSE ME
I think it comes out on the 23rd. Some of the songs have been released for listening on Youtube- I listened to "California Paraside" and I am loving it.^o^
| | EXIT music festival, Serbia - Novi Sad | | Is anyone attending this festival? It is one of the biggest and on of the most famous open-air music festivals in the world. This year is the 10th EXIT so it will be great party there. EXIT festival lasts 4 days and many famous music stars come there every year (Moby, Prodigy, Kernkraft, Patti Smith, Sex Pistols, Axwell, Eric Prydz, Carl Cox, Manu Chao, Mando Diao, etc.). As many of you are probably from USA it is hard and expensive for you to come there, but if you are able to do it I highly recommend it. You should check lineup for this EXIT as it changes every year.If you want to read more I suggest Wikipedia! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EXIT_(festival)Give me your thoughts about it![em]wink[/em] | |
| | Do You Think They Should Release Ronnie Biggs? | | For those who don't know Ronnie Biggs was one of the great train robbers, they were a gang who robbed the Queens mail train in 1963. The gang were caught and sent to prison but Biggs managed to escape after just one year and skipped to Brazil where he lived his whole life only coming back to the UK a couple of years ago when he got ill. Whilst in Brazil he recorded a song with the sex pistols sticking the finger up at the UK authorities and often claimed to be unrepentant. He's been in prison since he got back he's now 78 and is terminally ill, but our homes secretary has refused to release him. I can understand why as he hasn't served his sentence like all the other robbers have, but on the other hand he poses no risk any more as he can't walk or talk or even feed himself, so it seems pointless to keep him in jail. I don't think he isn't being released on grounds of what risk he now poses to society, instead I think it's for political reasons which seems wrong, as there are criminals who have done far worse things than Ronnie Biggs who have been released long ago. Here's a link to an interesting article on the subject if you'd like to know... | |
| | Pure Genius! | | The Sex Pistols had something in a capsule that can never be pulled off again. They got rich by pissing everybody off! They did it so well that they can't even pull it off now! Even if Sid was alive, they are different men and the world is a different place today. We live in a world that knows the Sex Pistols. But, in their hayday, the marketing strategies of the Sex Pistols were unmatched. They remain the only band in history to hold the number one slot and have it be blank because the song was banned! | |
| | Who Do You Think Is Better In Producing Good Music? America or UK? | | There are two countries that battles quietly in producing great music and artists. One is America and the other is United Kingdom or The British. They produce lots of good bands and musicians from both countries. What makes it interesting is that Americans starts something like for instance, rock n' roll or rhythm and blues. While the Brits watch and studied their culture the better result just comes out from the English artist. In my opinion, Americans are the pioneers but the British are the innovators and they always produce good music better than Americans because in they don't compromise the art from their works. Unlike in the US, artists and musicians, not all, but most are just in it for the fame and money. Easy to sell but not a classic. In other words, disposable. Although for me, I like both scenes but I like British music more than the other. What about you? Which one do you think is better or greater in producing brilliant artist and music? UK or USA?Here are some of my list in the USA:
Rancid, Elvis Presley, NOFX, Chuck Berry, Lemonheads, Ramones etc.
While in the UK:
Sex Pistols, The Clash, Arctic Monkeys, Duffy, Amy Winehouse, The Pigeon Detectives, The...
