myLot Discussions about Andy Griffith Show Memorabilia
what are you favorite classic shows?
It doesn't matter how many times I have seen these episodes in fact I have seen them so many times some I know word for word. But they are so great and still hold up to this day. The Andy Griffith Show - wasn't the same after Don Knotts left. Andy and Don were great together and who doesn't want to live in Mayberry. All In The Family - Great cast Carroll O Conner and Jean Stapleton were perfect as Archie and Edith. Same for Sally Struthers and Rob Reiner as Mike and Gloria. This show will live on forever it still holds up today. Great writers and great actors keep these shows alive.Leave It To Beaver - Beaver and his bff Larry always getting in trouble. Didn't we all have a friend like Larry running off and leaving us holding the bag.A few to add would be Fraiser Family Ties Fresh Prince of Bel Air alright gang your turn!
Are Any Famous People From Your Hometown?
I'm sure that the majority of you have probably never heard of Jasper, Alabama, which is my hometown. There are a few famous people from here, though. You have probably heard of "George Smith Lindsay". If the name doesn't ring a bell, he is a comedian and he played "Goober" on "The Andy Griffith Show" for many years. He also played on "Hee Haw",which was a country music show that also featured a lot of hayseed humor out of Nashville, Tennessee. He is from here. If you watched any of these shows very much, I'm sure you heard him talk about Jasper quite a bit. He was talking about Jasper, Alabama. George also went to high school with my brother. Also, Tallulah Bankhead was from here. She is an old actress who was in a lot of old movies. She died in 1964. I think that's right. She's been dead a long time, anyway. She was well known for calling everybody "dahling!" Her daddy, "William Bankhead", was a United States Senator. Before my family and I moved into the house where I live now, we lived down the street from the house where Tallulah grew up. It's a big house and very pretty! Very antebellum! Another famous person who lived here for a short time is "Sandy Posey". She was a...
Do you still watch the reruns?
I am sitting here resting and watching "7th Heaven" and "Touched By Angel" just went off and I know "Little House on the Prairie" will be on next. I love these oldie but goodies! I think all reality shows are coming on now and I really like these older shows. They are so much more family oriented with no bad language. I wish "Highway To Heaven" would come on again and oh, yes! "I Love Lucy" does come on sometime through the day along with "The Andy Griffith Show." Name some of the oldies that you like to watch and still enjoy! Thanks in advance and God bless you!
Black and White t.v. shows
I watched an episode of I Love Lucy last night and had forgotten how funny that show was. I started thinking of all the other reruns I would see as a kid like The HoneyMooners, The Andy Griffith show etc. What are your favorite black and white tv shows?
My bargain for the month with a goal - what's yours?
I have been watching sales for TV series and movies from the 60's70's and some 80's. That was back when TV was good, sitcoms were funny and movies had a point.I watch Amazon.com and watch theones I want and when they hit $15 for a season, I buy them. But I also wathc as if you spend $25 you get free shipping. SO far, I have been fortunate that I can get 2 seasons ($15 each) and that puts me over for the free shipping. Remember GOmer Pyle USMC? Newhart? Andy Griffith show? Just hilairous to the max. Fun and enjoyable. Anyway, when it was on, I love the Mary Tyler Moore show - wanted to be like her and have that amazingly cute apartment like hers! And a great friend like Rhoda!! I got season 1 and 4 for $15 ea prior, but yesterday there was a sale at Amazon and it was BOGO!! My favorite way to shop! The season 2 and 3 were on sale for $23.99 each and with BOGO, I got not only the free shipping but the box sets for $12 each!My goal is not only to have some good shows to watch for entertainment, but most likely will have to cancel cable and out here, if you don't have cable you don't even get the basic local channels - ABC< CBS, NBC. But since I can get news on line - I"ll...
A Mayberry Kind of Day
[em]happy[/em][em]happy[/em] I was pleasantly surprised when I tuned to a local station today and found they were running back-to-back episodes of the Andy Griffith Show. I think I watched six of them and it was thoroughly enjoyable. I used to love this show so much. It also brought home to me just how much our world has changed since then. Life was simpler. People had values. Opie thought he was rich upon finding a wallet containing $50. Gee, I sure do miss Mayberry! What about you?
The Pogo commercial have you seen it?
The other night late at night I was watching tv, and gads I love those old shows, it was TVLand or Nick at night, but I was watching hte Andy Griffith show, and well on comes the Pogo Commercial, I'm like hey I know that sight....It was well done and cute, so I hope to see it again, I red about it on the pogo new letter or letter to the editors, but I finally got to see itHave you seen the commercial? I think its a great way to draw people to the sight, whether they play for free or for a fee.Mooch
Buying DVd box sets of previous TV shows.
When buying DVD's on places like Amazon.com and such, they offer you NEW and USED offers. Have you ever had luck with the used ones? I mean, athey are like half the price and if they are in fine condition with no scratches, why not buy them, but you are buying without knowing that. i am sure the seller isn't going to tell you they are scratched. But at the same time they are used and you don't know the condition. Any thoughts or experiences? I'm looking at the Andy Griffith Show Seasons. Low on money and just looking but $20 used vs. $40 new.... just gotta wonder and ask!
What is your Favorite TV themesong
I was watching nick at nite and Growing Pains came on. I remember loving the theme song when the show was originally on television, and it got me thinking about tv themes. The Greatest American Hero had a fantastic theme song. I loved the theme from WKRP in Cincinatti. Another of my favorites was from Perfect Strangers. Of course there are the classics, "the Brady Bunch," "The Partridge Family"; and even those with not lyrics, "The Andy Griffith Show," and the "Dick Van Dike show," come to mind. So tell me. What TV theme song brings back the most memories for you??
Brady Bunch' actor dies at 84
I got this in my email today. I hadn't heard about him for awhile, so I didn't know he was still alive. The characters he played seemed nice and lovable.LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- Allan Melvin, a character actor best known for playing Sam the Butcher on "The Brady Bunch," has died. He was 84. Allan Melvin played Archie Bunker's friend Barney Hefner on "All in the Family." Melvin died of cancer Thursday at his home in the Brentwood section of Los Angeles, said Amalia Melvin, his wife of 64 years. The jowly, jovial Melvin spent decades playing a series of sidekicks, second bananas and lovable lugs, including Archie Bunker's friend Barney Hefner on "All in the Family," and Sgt. Bilko's right-hand man Cpl. Henshaw on the "Phil Silvers Show."But his place in pop culture will be fixed as butcher and bowler Sam Franklin, the love interest of Brady family maid Alice Nelson, who was played by Ann B. Davis. Melvin played the role from 1970 to 1973. Born in Kansas City, Missouri, in 1923, Melvin grew up in New York and attended Columbia University. He was appearing on Broadway in "Stalag 17" when he began his decades-long television career with "The Phil Silvers Show," playing...
